The Patriotism Flap!

Geez, I need to sign up as an advisor to people speaking on behalf of Obama! Gen Wes Clark (ret) didn't really say anything terribly wrong.... But his words about McCain not having executive experience and saying that getting shot down and being held a prisoner of war does not give the man any qualifications to be Commander in Chief.... well, uh, they were just plain stupid!!!!! You don't fuck with McCain's military service, O.K.????

Obama did a good job in handling this in his patriotism speech at Independence Mo. Still, when you are the candidate, the "buck" stops with you... (speaking of Harry Truman) You will hear Fox News pundits playing this for all it is worth.

I admire John McCain. However, I do feel that you have to look at the the man's whole record - military AND public servant. Like Obama, he has his plusses and minuses.

Also, exactly what executive experience does Obama have???

Here's the problem....

My heart tells me to vote for Obama and my head tells me to vote for McCain. With McCain, we'd probably get more sensible tax policy and I think he would be able to compromise with the Democrats on some issues. But then, it is a bit hard to rest a young, charismatic, Kennedy-esque candidate who gives inspiring speaches.

Also, there is another part of me who misses Ron Paul! Well, Obama kinda outdid him on Internet enthusiasm, but Ron Paul raised some good points early on in the Republican debates, as well as a lot of cash. I voted for him in 1988, I think.... Liberatarian-Republicans and the other moderate ones are the only ones I can tolerate.

Geez, I'd be labled a flip-flopper for sure if I were a candidate. But since I'm not, I reserve the right to change my mind. I can not really sign on to either political party. All I can hope for is that the next President can get us through the tough times.

Distorting the Bible....

And a fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution as well! These are the comments of our beloved Dr. Dobson down in the Springs referring to Obama's views on the Bible and his interpretation of our Constitution.

Interpret the Bible??? I s'pose Dobson feels that he and his Taliban organization are the only ones qualified to do so. And this guy would have loved it had we fucked with the Constitution to meet his Taliban criteria. NO Thanks!!!

Gawd, the Springs is a beautiful city yet you can't get away from Evangelical radio when cruising the airwaves there. I'm still glad Dobson did not endorse McCain. Should he win, McCain will owe nothing to Dobson's group. This is in stark contrast to Mullah Dobson being summoned to the Bush White House after he disapproved of that Harriet Miers croney of Bush being nominated for the Supreme Court. Bush and Rove sure knew how to work the Evangelicals. Or was it the other way around???

California licenses same-sex marriage...

That is great in all, but I still wish the voters in general would decide these issues. It is fair to give out equal rights, but I understand those who cling to tradition. I don't, but if something is forced on the public, it is bound to breed resentment.

Still, seeing that elderly lesbian couple wed made me happy. I think we have a couple like that in our building.

Now this issue has cropped up during a presidential election cycle, just as it did in 2004. Hmm, that is when the Evangelicals came out in force - spurred on by these "wedge" issues. Bush won... But what would President McCain be able to do about this??? Republicans would be lucky to hold on to their current numbers in Congress. Even Bush could not muster enough support to pass the "same-sex" marriage ban in his heyday.

How is same-sex marriage working out in Canada??? I hardly hear a peep about them in the news these days... Hmm....

A regular guy...

Tim Russert passed the litmus test in receiving universal praise from all parties. I am sad to see such a nice person pass away at such a young age. And leaving a wife and son behind as well...

Well, it is a shame yet Tim will be remembered for quite some time for his work.

Puhleeeze!

I'll be accused of being anti-Semitic and all, but puhleeze! This group is too close to what I define as Neo-Con. They want us to go over there and help Israel occupy ALL of the Middle East. Yes, I think Israel has a perfect right to survive, but they can't have everything! There were Palestinian Arabs there before the formation of the Jewish State and they also have rights to some of that territory (IMHO).

Ok, some of McCain's criticism of Obama rings true. He does sound a bit naive at times. Yet I do hope we could develop a dialogue with the Iranians at some point. Regardless, AIPAC is a powerful lobby to both parties.
