Hundreds of terrified Gazans fleeing Hamas rule, flee to tunnel with Israel...

Go figure! This gives me hope that perhaps Hamas could get carried away and people would stop supporting them. Of course, except for a couple of severely wounded ones, they weren't allowed into Israel proper to pass through to the West Bank.

With such support that they have from the outside, it is difficult to imagine Hamas just going away. Perhaps with time...

Sanctions taken off Abbas-led government

Now, most of the world is supporting the newly "created" Palestinian government led by Mahmoud Abbas. Either you would support the complete destruction of Israel (which I do not) OR you would back him.

Perhaps the Palestinian people will see the quick response the world (well, most of it, anyway) will give to the government of Abbas and give up on Hamas. Of course Hamas probably has lots of cash from Iran and Syria, but I hope that aid from the West will outshine them. Abbas is correct in telling Bush that he'd better act quickly in resuming negotiations in the Peace Talks to infuse hope in the region.

Bush's Missle Shield????

I'm not going to "shoot" this one down (pun intended), but I want to know exactly why this is needed!!??? Now Putin said he could put stuff in Azerbaijan, but Bush said they'd have to look at that proposal. Now he's going on about putting stuff in Poland.

Yes, I understand it's complicated triangulation, but some of us would like to know exactly whose missles we would be defending against and where they are going.

I heard Iran mentioned (again). Yet I hear others say they are 10 years away from developing such technology. And would this "shield" be able to prevent missles from hitting Israel?

How's about some border security first, Joe!

Joe Lieberman speaks on Face the Nation of launching raids into Iran to attack bases launching terrorists towards Iraq... While I admire the Senator for taking such an unpopular stance, I really don't want to see this war widened.

Yes, it's true that some of Iran's actions could be interpreted as an act of war. But I feel that Joe is so pro war-on-terror due to his being Jewish and sympathies with Israel. Sorry, I'm not trying to be anti-Semitic here, but I don't know any other way to interpret his position.

Before that is tried, how about patrolling the border with Iran better and scrutinizing anyone who is coming into Iraq? I am not saying to be soft with Iran, but have some patience!!! Also, with their famous history of keeping hostages, do we really want to take that chance?

I believe it is ultimately in Iran's interest to have a stable Iraq. Using proper diplomacy (not just lecturing and threatening them), I think there could be progress made. Heck the American and Iranian navies are talking via their radios to avoid a mishap - why can't diplomats talk for a while as well?

I'll bet that border is more porous than ours with Mexico!

Martha Imelda Gonzalez' Venta de ropa y calzado

Instead of sitting here moaning about immigration, I decided that there is one area that is often overlooked: helping Mexico out of poverty so that they can have a good life there. I found a cool way to do it, which is actually quite painless. www.kiva.org sets up micro-loans to entrepreneurs in various countries throughout the world in places such as African countries, Azerbaijan, Mexico and others.

The total loan is for $1200, but my share is $475. You can give as little as $25. The loan is repaid, sans interest and then I get my money back. Cool!

Ron Paul?

Hmmm... Interesting. I read that there were good reviews on his debate performance. Liberatarian-Republican??? Hmmm... I pulled this off his website, which I heartily agree with:

"The original American patriots were those individuals brave enough to resist with force the oppressive power of King George. I accept the definition of patriotism as that effort to resist oppressive state power. The true patriot is motivated by a sense of responsibility, and out of self interest -- for himself, his family, and the future of his country -- to resist government abuse of power. He rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state."

Oh, the name sounds familiar - did he run as Liberatarian candidate once? Maybe I voted for him... Hmmm...

Immigration bill in doubt? Yeah!

It's my understanding that all the competing amendments have screwed it up so much that now Senators won't be able to pass the bill. Yeah!!!! I've heard too many bad things about this legislation. Why do we need to rush to pass a new set of laws, when the ones there already aren't even being enforced??? The amendment (or it may have been more than one) I liked - which had teeth in it - was to bar people with criminal offences from getting legal residency. That amendment, by Sen John Cornyn of Texas, was plain common sense. Of course I'd be a bit lenient on very minor stuff like a parking ticket, but not much else. When there are so many coming here, we can afford to be a bit choosey with screening out the bad apples. But, sadly, nobody has the guts or fortitude to buck the special interests who want cheap labor or to gain political brownie points.
