A somewhat grim Memorial Day...

As U.S. casualties pile up in Iraq, the rest of us should pause and reflect upon the difficult job the troops are doing. This is being made more difficult by the "Vietnamization" of the Iraq war: in other words America's patience has run low and the U.S. politicians are arguing over it. Let us only hope that Iraqinization (my new terminology) goes better than the other...

I believe what is needed is a comprehensive political settlement in order to attain cease fire. (this includes some neighboring countries and militias) This war can NOT be won by military means alone. I hope by this time next year we are either in the process of withdrawing or have withdrawn most of our troops from there.

If there was only a way to demonstrate to the various waring factions that they are killing more of the local (Muslim) population than Westerners and that we will be very glad to leave the country as soon as possible. But then again some seem rather thick-headed.
